For years I would drive home from work passing the same communities and businesses, and outside of a favorite sandwich shop or the driving range I'd never pay much attention to any of them. I had little use for cement mixers, video games, mediocre fast food, or wedding gowns. As my life got busier, and our family grew, we found great local parks and a fun amusement park to take the kids but really never had a need for anything along my work route. Then one day suddenly I was in dire need of finding a building I had driven by thousands of times. When my son Scott came home from school crying one day it was obvious that something was wrong. He told us that he had taken a test with the school nurse and she wrote him a note and he needed to deliver it to his parents as soon as he saw us. As tears dripped down his face, he unfurled the note that said every student in the school had taken a vision and hearing test and Scott's results were inconclusive. She told us that visiting a hearing center would be a good idea to make sure that he was healthy. We explained to Scott that he hadn't done anything wrong. We loved him and wanted to make sure he grew up to be a healthy and happy man. The hearing center closest to our house turned out to be on my work route. We scheduled an appointment and I took Scott one afternoon. When we arrived at the hearing center I was amazed at the modern technology that they possessed. This was not the type of building that I had imagined. The waiting room had high definition televisions and push screen technology to sign in and fill out your medical history. When Scott got called back to be evaluated the "studio" not "exam room" looked like something that a radio station or music recording company would have. They had him put on a state of the art headset, retreated to a room with mixers and other technology, and began playing various popular music selections at different levels of volume and pitch. Not only did Scott enjoy the experience, he thought it was like going on a personal tour of his favorite hip-hop artist's office. He listened to tunes and raised his hand when he heard something. It was about as simple as it gets. I suppose our experience was so positive because the hearing center found no major problems. They suggested he come back in a year to make sure nothing new transpired. That being said, I am amazed at the way medicines and exams have changed over the years. My trips to the doctor's office as a kid were never so pleasurable. If you're looking for a reputable eastern north carolina hearing center, check out the services at Miracle-Ear.
