A recent survey out by Social Media Examiner reports on how marketers are using social media to grow and promote their business. The report details it all – from weekly time commitments to the most-used social media platforms to the overall benefits of social media marketing. A few of the main findings include: Marketers place a very high value on social media. The number of marketers who indicated that social media is important for their business increased to 86% up from 83% in 2012. At least 88% of marketers want to know the most effective social tactics and the best ways to engage their audience with social media. YouTube is seen as the top spot for future plans. Almost 70% of marketers plan on increasing their use of YouTube in 2013. More than half of marketers are currently blogging more 62% want to learn more about it and 66% plan on increasing blogging activities in 2013. Today only 5% of marketers are podcasting but 24% plan to increase their podcasting activities in 2013, with 32% wanting to learn more about it. Facebook and LinkedIn are the two most important social networks for marketers, though Facebook is a distant first. Nearly 50% of marketers select Facebook when forced with a choice of only one platform, followed by LinkedIn at 16%. Only 37%, however, think their Facebook marketing efforts are effective. Almost 90% of marketers reported that increased exposure was the top benefit of social media marketing. Despite the growth of social media, marketers still face challenges in determining the return on investment and the most effective tactics.
