Several up-and-coming businesses in the energy efficiency and renewable energy industry were highlighted yesterday as exhibitors at the 8th annual San Diego Gas & Electric Energy Showcase in San Diego, CA. While they were joined by several well-known names such as Seimens, General Electric and Kyocera, there were many companies that were not as well known. A total of more than 100 exhibitors showed off their latest technologies during the event. AeroVironment Inc., based out of Monrovia, Calif., showcased its design for a 19-pound, portable home electric vehicle charger with its EVSE-RS charging system. Klatu was another one of the showcase exhibitors, explaining how its Traxx EKG product monitors, analyzes and optimizes biotechnology freezers. While the company is headquartered in Washington, company employees primarily work out of San Diego. Klatu is currently working with SDG&E on a pilot rebate energy savings program for the biotech industry. The Showcase was preceded by an awards ceremony to some of San Diego’s most energy efficient companies. Winners included Sweetwater Union High School, the San Diego Community College District, BioMed Trust Realty Inc., the city of San Diego, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Southwest Fisheries Science Center, Vulcan Materials Co., Kyocera America Inc., Kaiser Permanente, the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership and the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.
