Okay, here's the two cent tour on Mrs Wombat. See, she's the English teacher you had as a kid who would tear apart your writing to the point where you didn't want to write another word again. Every spelling error, every grammatical error, every piece of punctuation out of place...if it was there...she'd find it. It was enough to make you scream. Well, as copywriters, you're going to get them too. Somebody will write to you and tell you that there is a spelling mistake or a grammatical error in your copy. Maybe you forgot a comma or a period. Maybe you should have used a semi colon in a place. Get the picture? Okay, then get this. Commas make your copy weak. Never use them. I don't care how bad your punctuation has to be to get away from the comma, don't use it. I'll use an ellipse or an em dash. I will NEVER use a comma...no matter how many Mrs Wombats write to me to tell me what a lousy writer I am. There are things in copywriting, that while they may be grammatically incorrect...like incomplete sentences...they work. So don't weaken your sales copy by letting a few remarks get to you. Just let them roll off your back. As time goes by (no, I'm not going to break out into song) you will begin to see that these are people who weren't going to be your target market anyway, because that's really what this all comes down to. Those who pull apart our copy like that are more interested in being right than in finding a solution to their problem. You'll never sell to these people, so don't bother trying. You'll be a lot happier in the long run. Bottom line is this. Learn your copywriting basics and stick to your guns. The Mrs Wombats of the world are the minority. You won't get nearly as many of them as you will people who you will turn from prospects to customers with good solid copy. To YOUR Success write my essay
