It is a sunrise like no other, as a sea of mist rolls in to fill up the clear mountain range at the Phu Chee Fah in the Chiang Rai area of Thailand. This spectacular vision is so mesmerizing that travellers make a steep and rather difficult trek of about 800 metres in the chilly hours of dawn, clad in warm clothes and wait patiently for the sight to appear on a clear day in Thailand. A best kept secret among the locals, it is now popular among the foreign tourists as well and while the steep trek keeps the feeble away, and children are better kept off as well, the young and the adventurous are still attracted to the peak that affords such a rare sight. This famous scenic location is part of the Chaing Rai Highlands in the Theong district and is an elevated area of the Doi pah Mon sub-range that rises over Laos sloping towards the Mekong River. The view from the height of about 1,600 metres is spellbinding especially on the clearer days during the months of November to February. The vision is the vast stretch of valley of the Saniyabully province of Laos and right at dawn the vast space is filled in by a thick roll of misty clouds that appear like a sea of mist rolling in. It is a sight that is a photographers dream come true and even the ordinary traveller is sure to find much to capture his or her camera's special attention. The hike up to the mountain summit is somewhat challenging but not impossible even at the wee hours of the morning. While it takes some 30 minutes to reach the top, with warm clothes and proper accessories the journey is not that tedious and can include a scenic route with views of the Mekong River, green hilltops and highlands all the way to the top. The most important part of the trip is to reach the summit in time for dawn and not after the sunrise, as the glare of a fully risen sun diminishes this ravishing sight. When it comes to Chiang Rai hotels, a traveller can find some equally promising prospects of residential options without too much of a hassle. Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort is a rich combination of authentic Thai culture together with ravishing landscapes and indoor comforts that any traveller would find it hard to resist. Those heading to this part of Thailand looking for a hotel Chiang Rai would do well to make a decision to stay here and enjoy the very best the region has to offer.
