Suan Pakkad Palace was once named the 'Lettuce Garden Palace' or the 'Cabbage Patch' which is what it had been thousands of years ago, prior to the royalty of Thailand selecting the grounds to build their regal home. The palace has now become the most talked of museum that preserves Thai architecture in its true form. Ever since the patch of garden was converted to a royal domicile, there has never been anything humble about the premises as the buildings were completed to boast of opulence and elegance. The Suan Pakkad Palace emanates authentic Thai house designs, showcases genuine Siamese style and is luxuriously, royal. This grand masterpiece of architectural perfection encompasses four teak houses each two floors high with interlinked stairway platforms. Suan Pakkad Palace was pronounced a museum in the year 1952 during the reign of Prince and Princess Chumbhotpong Paripatra. The Lacquer Pavilion which is almost five centuries old is one of the most striking structures within the premises. The Marsi Gallery, named after the daughter of Prince and Princess Chumbhotpong Paripatra, who was an artist in her own right has artwork from all over Thailand on display. The gardens are well pruned with plenty of greenery as would be expected from palace grounds.
