Kenya is a country highly dependent on agriculture for its current and future survival. With nearly 75% of the employed population working in agriculture, the impact of agriculture on society can be appreciated. However, there is much room for progress as nearly half of the agricultural output is to meet subsistence requirements only. Tea production is a key part of the agricultural scene in Kenya being the 3rd highest contributor to foreign income from agricultural goods. The most predominant tea grown is black tea, however other varieties are also cultivated. Tea is cultivated on some 152,000 hectares of land which producers nearly 350,000 tonnes of tea annually. A phenomenal achievement considering most of the production is handled by manual labor. Following a recent tour through Eastern and Southern Africa to meet with key employers in the region, AgJobsToday, Managing Director Ms Kelli Moulton is delighted to be active in the region.
