Let’s put it out there: when it comes to reliability, Japanese cars in the global market still rule. From the US, to UK, Australia and Asia, Japanese brands have been coming out on top of consumer reliability surveys conducted by various automotive groups and insurance companies such as Edmunds, Motor Trend, What Car?, Warranty Direct, Consumer Reports, and J.D. Power & Associates. A million or so consumers can’t be wrong, so if you’re in the market for something sturdy and will just keep on running, go Japanese. In the UK, the top three reliable secondhand vehicle brands are Honda, Toyota, and Lexus. This is interesting considering the UK is home to plenty of luxury marques such as BMW, Mecedes-Benz, and Audi. Also making the list are Suzuki at fourth place and Subaru at fifth place. Tied at sixth place are Mazda and Mitsubishi, sharing the spot with Hyundai from South Korea. The least reliable brand is Land Rover—seven out of ten Rovers will break down at least once a year. Furthermore, Audi, Mercedes, and Jaguar are all deemed to be the least reliable. And get this: the only brand from the US that did make it to the reliable list is Chevrolet (yes, not even Ford). This is the reason why practical buyers would have an aversion to buying luxury cars, even pre-owned ones: one simply cannot have a peace of mind driving them because of poor reliability, and worse, they also tend to be expensive to repair—a double whammy for those who are in need of functional and dependable vehicles. You will really be so much better off with Japanese used cars in the global market. Based on the survey, even though you may be driving a luxury car, you could still be left stranded somewhere without hope of having your car repaired. If that’s the case, then your car is as good as a diamond in the desert. Sure, a luxury car is good to own and is always something to boast about, but many others scoff at this attitude toward purchases, especially those who are more practical than extravagant in spending their hard-earned money. If you find yourself looking for a car that will be worth your money, is reliable and won’t break down when you need it most, then you should consider the following models that consistently make the ‘most reliable’ list. You can easily find these models as Japanese used cars in the global market, so getting one is easy. The first on the list is the Honda Accord, scoring 9 out of 10 in reliability and a perfect 10 in safety in J.D. Power & Associates’ surveys. At second is the Lexus ES—if you really, really want a luxury car, this is the only one that’s recommended for its reliability. Next up is the Honda Odyssey, perfect for those with large families. It’s followed by Toyota’s RAV4 if you’re more of the sporty type. Last but definitely not the least is the hybrid Toyota Prius if you want to save not only your money, but the whole planet as well. You may hate them or prefer classy European marques over them, but you really can’t beat Japanese used cars in the global market when it comes to being steadfast rides. If you want to buy European, go ahead, but if you don’t want the surveys to say “I told you so” when you’re stranded somewhere, then you know what to buy instead.
