Toyota mobility is a special program that was developed to meet the transportation needs of the elderly and differently-abled persons who may have difficulty in getting in and out of vehicles. The program includes vehicle-based mobility solutions for easier vehicle access and financial assistance to supplement adaptive equipment costs. There are three types of mobility solutions available for Toyota customers: factory-installed auto access seats, ramps for wheelchair access, and other equipment for adaptive mobility. Easy vehicle access is a valuable thing for persons with disabilities. It indirectly provides them with dignity because they won’t have to rely on people carrying them into a car, or pushing them up. It also gives parents and caregivers the peace of mind that their disabled children and patients can go in a car quickly, safely, and easily without risk of accident. Mobility solutions also offer comfort and convenience for the well-being of disabled or elderly passengers. Toyota’s Factory-Installed Auto Access Seat Toyota’s auto access seat is the first of its kind in the market, installed in the Sienna minivan. It is a rotating lift up seat which provides comfort and convenience for those who have a hard time in getting in or out of a vehicle. Elderly passengers who find it hard to climb up a car because of arthritis or rheumatism can simply sit in the Toyota Auto Access Seat, and caregivers can easily control the lifting seat back into the minivan. This feature is also recommended for passengers with a walking disability, children with disabilities, and disabled veterans. Toyota mobility’s Auto Access Seat is available with the Sienna’s LE or XLE trims. The US-model Sienna is manufactured in Toyota’s assembly plant in Princeton, Indiana, making it readily available to the American market. The seat is operated with one touch using a wireless remote control. In detail, the seat can lift up to 330 pounds and can turn 90 degrees. It can be lowered down to a ground clearance of 19 inches with four inches of side travel and can be reclined up to 24 degrees for more comfort. The access seat has built-in safety features, including a system override, which prevents the seat from moving if the Sienna’s sliding door is not completely open, if there’s an obstruction, and if the car is not in the park position. Aftermarket Adaptive Equipment There are other equipment that may be installed after purchase to meet the passenger needs for other Toyota car models. The most popular equipment are hand controls that enable a disabled driver to operate a car using only their hands. Another popular Toyota mobility solution is a lift for wheelchairs and scooters so these can easily be stowed in a vehicle’s rear compartment. There are also hitch-mounted lifts and carriers, and aftermarket lift-up seats. A comfortable mode of transportation should be made available for everyone, especially those whose mobility is limited due to illness, disability, or old age. It’s a good thing that one of the world’s most prominent automakers has the welfare of the elderly and persons with disabilities in mind, which has resulted in their development of solutions that would enable passengers to have easy access to vehicles. We hope Toyota mobility solutions will continue to develop more equipment for those who need it most.
