A Meribel chalet is a unique style of holiday. Meribel Chalets started the trend for inclusive holidays back in the 1960’s. There are many companies now running chalets in Meribel, both large and small, so you have a wide choice. The cost per person varies according to the level of luxury. A chalet holiday in Meribel tends to be more expensive than many other resorts. The reason is high demand and the chalet owners charge very high rents to the British companies. Meribel chalets normally start smallest with 3 bedrooms and can be as large as 12 bedrooms for 24 people. The most popular size of chalet is probably 5 bedrooms for 10. In the past a Meribel Chalet holiday was an exclusive affair, but now there are 1000’s of visitors every year. We now have many visitors from Russia too. They take their ski holiday normally 1st week of January so the cost of a holiday has increased for this period. Major Holiday companies such as Alpine Elements, Crystal, Neilson, Thompsons, Ski World and others all have chalets in Meribel. Their chalet holidays usually include the full package. Flight, transfer and accommodation. The most expensive chalets are often located by the piste so you can ski from the front door of your chalet. The cheaper options are usually out of the main town and you need to use the free bus service or a private minibus provided by your chalet operator. Meribel-Mottaret has just a few catered chalets. Most are in Meribel main town. There are also chalets located now in outlying areas such as Gittaz, Meribel Chandon, Les Allues and Meribel Village. Also some are being built at Le Plantin area, which will have its own lift connection soon. Le Plantin this year will have the free bus service extended from Meribel Village. Le Plantin will become very exclusive a time progresses and it has one of the best restaurants in the valley right on its doorstep. To save money some guests stay down the valley in Brides Les Bains but normally in hotels or apartments. To my knowledge nobody operates chalets down there yet. I have stayed in chalets in various ski resorts over the years and it is my favourite style of ski holiday. I like to social angle and meeting new people each year. However be careful. If you are young and single you will not want to be in a chalet with families and young noisy kids! At the same time if you are a family you might want to check your chalet has other families at the same time. Great for your children to mix with others. Some Meribel chalets now have children free weeks, so this is another option worth checking out. As there is such a wide choice everyone should be able to find a Meribel chalet holiday to suit them. Just remember to avoid school holidays if you are young and single. These periods can be an absolute nightmare especially if UK holidays coincide with the French. The main school holidays for 2013.14 season are New Year and 16th February 2014. You have been warned.
