Classic paving stones can be used for walkways, driveways or patios. They can be purchased in kits that come with the stones you need and laying instructions to make a circular pattern. Follow the instructions carefully for preparing the ground where the stones will be installed and setting the cubic stones to ensure your new patio, walkway or driveway will last for years. Preparation Use a long garden hose to outline the installation area. Adjust the hose until you are happy with the outline. Stake out the final design with ground stakes and string. Make sure there are no buried electrical or cable lines in the installation area. Dig out the sod and dirt within the installation area to a depth of 6 to 9 inches. Keep the bottom of the excavated area as smooth as possible and make sure it slopes off at a rate of 1 inch for each 4 inches of area for water runoff. Start with a 2-inch layer of sand gravel, tamp it down with a vibrating plate machine, add another 2 inches of gravel and tamp it down again. Follow the gravel with a layer of sand 3/4 to 1 inch thick. Keep the sand slightly moist. Installation as follows: Start laying the stones in the center and work your way out. Place the peculiar stones on the sand carefully to avoid disturbing it unnecessarily. Use a small section of plywood to kneel on to avoid disturbing the sand. You can kneel on the stones while working after you have a large enough area laid to be able to kneel and stand on them without using the outer two stones. After all the stones are in place, spread a thin layer of sand over them and sweep it into the cracks between the stones. Make sure all of the cracks are filled with sand. Set the stones in place by going over them with the vibrating plate machine. Run the drilling machine over the stones in one direction the first time. Inspect the stones for cracks or breaks and make sure none of them moved out of place. Replace any cracked or broken stones, reset any stones that shifted, and go over them again in one direction with the plate machine. When all the stones are in place and none of them are cracked or broken, run the plate machine over them several more times moving in a different direction each time to make sure they are set properly. Add more sand if necessary to make sure all the seams are completely filled. Wash any excess sand away with a garden hose. Sealant should not be applied for one year to allow the salts within the stones to leach out naturally. Finally, let me have a short conclusion.
