Colloquially known as Evo, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution manufactures high performance sports cars. Though these cars were manufactured only for Japanese market, the demand these cars had forced the manufactures to widen the market to the United Kingdom and United States. Mitsubishi’s design team worked very hard with each new model introduced by the Mitsubishi Motor maintaining the companies’ heritage and remaining true to the car. With their hard and dedicated work the Lancer Evolution emerged successfully. The ten generation of Lancer Evolution is as follows. Evolution I: These cars were sold in GSR and RS model. The production of these cars was from the year 1992 to 1994. A 2.0 L turbocharged DOHC engine with a hyper sports gear trim package was used in these cars. The GSR model had power windows and seats, anti-lock brakes, rear wiper and steel wheels that weighed 1,234 kg. These option lacked in RS model. Top speed of this car is 228Km/hour and GSR version used viscous LSD rear differential. Evolution II: This was an upgraded model produced from 1994 to 1995. There were handling improvements like wheelbase adjustments, larger swaybars. There were minor body work hanges like a larger spoiler and the tires were made 10mm wider. The fuel tank was made 50L and the output power was increased to 256PS for the same engine. Evolution III: These cars were launched in 1995 with major improvements. These cars were more stylish with improved air supply to the radiator, intercooler and brakes. A new turbo charger compressor was installed that increased the power output to 270bph. Evolution IV: In the year 1996 evolution IV became popular all over the world. Here again two versions were available RS and GSR. The engine and transaxle rotated 180 degrees in these cars for better balance and to eliminate the torque steer. This model had two large fog lights in the front bumper. The power was increased to 280PS with the new twin scroll turbocharger. Evolution V: The interior had recaro seats. The body has new aluminium rear spoilers and the track was widened by 10mm and it used wheel of 17 inches. The engine was strengthened and the cam duration was increased but the power output stayed the same. Evolution VI: The main changes were made in the cooling and engine durability. The RS version cars gad a power output of 330 hp. A new model was added known as the RS2, it was a RS with few GSR’s options. Evolution VII: This was launched in 2001. It had automatic drivetrain. It used 5 gear automatic gearboxes which worked on fuzzy logic. The power output was down as compared to other cars and was 264PS. Evolution 8: This was sold for the first time in US. Evolution 8 cars GSR and RS model had 5-speed manual gearbox with power output of 280PS. This uses slick-response for improved handling and has an aluminium roof panel. The SSL and MR model had 6-speed manual gearbox. Evolution IX: It was launched in the year 2005 with an output power of 291PS and torque to 392 N.m. The GSR, RS, SE and MR were the models launched in this edition. Evolution X: Launched in the year 2005 these cars use 2.0L turbocharged, all- aluminium inline-4 GEMA engine. The least power output is 280PS and varies with the market. Two versions MR and GSR are offered. This is the last of the evolution in the Lancer evolution.
