Tried and Tested Tips for Removing Bloodstains from the Carpet

Business
Nothing can mar the beauty of a carpet the way bloodstains can. When spotted with blood, you need to act right away before the bloodstain sets in. Time is of the essence here; slightest of tardiness on your side, can jeopardize the luxurious beauty of your carpet. Cleaning bloodstains is easier than one might think. Quick thinking and right tools is all that is required to avert the crisis. Listed below are a few handy tips that will help you along the process.

Bleach cleaning

First thing first, blot away as much blood as you can with a paper towel. Rigorous scrubbing is only going to push the blood deep into the carpet, making the stain worse. Rather, try gently mopping at the bloody residue. Dissolve equal proportion of bleach and lanolin free cleaning solution together. Dip a sponge into the solution and work it on the bloodstain. Work the solution from the outer layer of the stain to the center, so as not to spread the stain, further. Allow the solution to saturate deep into the carpet, before wiping it clean with a wet cloth. Air-dry the carpet completely before stepping on it. Once dry, examine the carpet to see if the stain has faded completely.

Ammonia solution

Fresher the stains are, the easier they are to remove. However, the real problem starts when the blood stains starts to dry. If the blood has coagulated into sticky residue, this is what you need to do. Sprinkle some water on the stain; let the carpet absorb the water for a while before blotting it away with an absorbent rag. Refrain from using hot water as it will only serve to worsen the stains.

Fill a canister with 1-tablespoon ammonia with half a cup of cold water. Shake the can until the ingredients blends well. Spray the solution directly on the stain and allow it to saturate for few minutes. Later, blot it away with a clean rag. Inhaling ammonia can be hazardous to health, make sure to put on a safety mask before making any cleaning foray.

Vinegar detergent

First, soak up the blood with a clean towel. Moisten a towel with distilled vinegar and mop the stain with it until nothing comes up. If the stain persists, make a paste of vinegar and baking soda. Apply the paste onto the stain and let it sit for couple of minutes. Later, rinse the vinegar paste with a damp towel. Blot up the excess water with a paper towel. Use a hair dryer to dry off the area.

Handy tips

• While cleaning bloodstains, you need to administer caution, applying too much liquid can cause the stain to spread. Before using a cleaning solution, make it a point to pre-test it on an inconspicuous area.

• For stubborn stains, try applying compound mixture of 3% hydrogen peroxide with water. Dab on to the stained area and blot it clean.

• When using ammonia to clean the area, make sure to ventilate the place thoroughly. Whatever you do, avoid breathing in ammonia fumes.

• Avoid scrubbing the stain, it only serve to drive it deeper.

Nothing can mar the pristine beauty of your carpet the way bloodstains can. Several steps you can take to remove bloodstains, but it will always leave its trace behind.
