When it comes to Nissan sports cars, the GT-R is surely one of the most popular. It was first released to the Japanese market in 2007; the following year it crossed the seas to the United States in Canada; and it was welcomed by the rest of the world in 2009. The GT-R’s racing heritage can be traced back to the Nissan Skyline, and it fits the description of a supercar really well. If you think that’s fast, you’d better prepare yourself for even faster times, because Mr. Mizuno also said Nissan would continue to improve the car, with new revisions every year. Nissan held true to their word, because the 2013 model (2012 in Japan) soon to be released to the worldwide market was tested to jump to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds, reaching a fourth of a mile in distance in just 10.8 seconds. Nissan was able to achieve this feat because of the added power—the Nissan sports car GT-R’s engine can now produce 545 horsepower and 463 pound-feet of torque. As mentioned earlier, the last model release already had 530 hp, and it generates 448 lb-ft of torque. The new release would also have slip-resistant seats and more efficient cooling ducts for the front brakes. With these improvements, Mr. Mizuno is confident that they will break their latest Nurburgring track record of 7 minutes and 20 seconds. The GT-R may be powerfully fast, but what’s really good about it is that it doesn’t cost as much as the other sporty cars in its segment, making it a favorite among motorsport racers and hobbyists alike. When it was introduced, the GT-R immediately caught the attention of automotive experts, earning for itself the Supercar of the Year award from Top Gear in 2007. Every year after that, the model continued to reap awards and recognition: it was Autocar’s Driver’s Car of the Year for 2008; the recipient of Japan’s Most Advanced Technology Award in 2008; Automobile Magazine’s Automobile of the Year for 2009; and it was also the winner in Motor Magazine’s Performance Car Cup.
