The math is very simple. One-pound of fat equals 3500 calories. Wish to lose a pound weekly? Then you have to digest 3500 calories less each week than you use. That's about 500 calories a day. By reducing 500 calories a day from your usual daily diet, while maintaining your exercise level the same, you can lose approximately one-pound per week.

Fine - that does not appear to be much, especially if you are over 25 pounds overweight. Study after study indicates, though, that those people who lose weight gradually - at a price of 1-2 pounds each week -are far more likely to keep the weight off and keep a normal weight for an eternity.

It's important to remember that exercise/calorie numbers are based on a female weighing 130 pounds. In the event that you weigh more, you'll burn more. Want an additional benefit to burning calories through exercise? When you exercise, you create muscle by changing it from fat. Three guesses which physique tissue burns more calories - even though you are not training.

So how much specifically IS 500 calories? If you are going to lower your daily consumption by 500 calories, it helps to understand what you need to cut out, right? Here is how easy it is to lose 500 calories a day:

- Use milk in place of product in your coffee. Savings? 50 calories per glass.

- Miss the butter in your baked potato. Savings? 100 calories

- Drink fruit-flavored water instead of a 16 ounce pop. Savings? 200 calories

- Miss the Big Mac and have a salad alternatively. A Large Mac weighs in at a whopping 460 calories. A fresh salad with a light dressing? Less-than 100! Savings? 360 calories

- Overlook the bag of potato chips. A typical snack dimension bag of chips has over 300

- Love these chips and can not let them have up? Swap the lanky chips out for thick steak-cut ones. Skinny French chips digest more gas than the thicker, meatier versions. Savings? 50 calories. A fresh salad with a light dressing? Savings? 360 calories

If you had rather look at losing weight from a fitness perspective, you can also lose one pound a week by boosting your activity level by 500 calories each day. How simple is that to complete? Take a look:

- Swimming is very good for you, and plenty of fun, too. Burn: 510 calories

- Get-out into your garden. An hour or so of gardening tasks that includes bending and stretching can burn-up to as many calories as a brisk walk. Burn: 250 calories.

- Play a game of golf. Hook up with a buddy for a weekly tennis game and you will be surprised at the difference. One hour of energetic golf is one of the greatest calorie-burners around. - Have a half-hour walk-around the playground. Aim for a pace that is a little faster when compared to a walk, although not rapidly enough to be breathless.

- Swimming is great for you, and plenty of fun, too.

- Get out into your backyard.

- Play a game of golf. Hook up with a buddy for a weekly tennis game and you will be amazed at the difference. One hour of energetic golf is one of the finest calorie-burners around. Burn: 800 calories.

Do bear in mind that eating less than 1000 calories per day for more than a few days will convince your human body that it is starving and slow your metabolism. Maintain calorie amounts affordable, and consult a doctor if you prefer a quicker, more drastic weight reduction.
