People, who wish to work as a security guard or want to work in security services, will need a license. Security services include security work for and as private and public service security, loss prevention, club/bar bouncer and private body guard. In Ontario, people, who want to apply for the job in security services and actually wish to make this job their profession, need to apply for a security guard license. For the purpose they need to undergo Ontario Security Testing. People can apply for the security guard ministry testing online or through mail. There are some set eligibility criteria to apply for getting license of security service or security guard. Following are the eligibility criteria:
1.) Candidate must be at least 18 years old
2.) Candidate must be eligible to work in Canada
3.) Candidate must have no criminal record of any kind
4.) Candidate must have taken a basic security training course
5.) Candidate must pass the security guard ministry testing Once candidates have passed the Ontario Security testing they will be provided with the security guard license. They should remember an important thing that the license they get is not valid for life time. They will need to get their license renewed once it is expired. The license will expire in 2 years on candidate's birthday. When a licensed security guard reports to his work, he will need to have his license every time with him. There are many places where security guards have to show their license. In some venues, they have to keep their license visible all the time. As security guards are hired by people to provide them security and protection, people rely on licensed and qualified security persons only. The security persons are not responsible to protect people, property from unwanted elements such as criminals, thieves etc. In case, licensed security guard is caught working security without a license, he may also be charged by an OPP officer. And, the charge may include a fine of $25,000 or imprisonment of up to one year.
