Suggestions to Attach Artificial Stone

Business
If you have ever wanted to create a surface or wall that looks like stone, artificial stone veneer is an easy and affordable solution. Artificial stones, otherwise known as culture stones, are typically made with molds in order to replicate the look of natural stones. There are many manufacturers of artificial stone and they come in a wide variety of styles, colors and finishes. How the artificial stone is attached varies, depending on whether you are covering a concrete or a wood surface. Instructions as follows: Firstly, line wall studs with plywood, wafer board, cement board or a similar manufacturer recommended substrate. Secondly, line the entire surface by stapling on weather resistant building paper. Successive sheets of building paper should overlap by two inches. Thirdly, line the entire surface with metal lath or wire mesh. Successive sections of metal lath or wire mesh should overlap by one inch. Nail the metal lath or wire mesh to the plywood along the studs using at least 1.5 inch nails. Place a nail every four to six inches down the stud. Fourthly, apply an undercoat of mortar. Use a mortar that is recommended by the manufacturer of the natural stones, and mix the mortar according to the instructions. Apply a 1/2 inch coat, making sure the metal lath or wire mesh is embedded in the mortar. Let the mortar set up for a few hours, and after it has become somewhat hardened, use a notched trowel to scratch up the surface of the mortar. Allow the mortar to cure for twenty-four hours. Fifthly, start attaching stones at the top and work downwards. As you work, keep the undercoat of mortar moist by periodically spraying it with water. Work in small sections at a time. Trowel 3/4 inch patches of mortar onto the scratched undercoat. Press firmly to work the mortar in. Mist or use a damp rag to moisten the back of the stones. Put a 1/2 inch layer of mortar onto the back of the stones. Press the stones onto the stone wall using firm pressure. Gently tap the stones with a rubber mallet to finish setting them into the mortar. Allow the wall to cure for twenty-four hours. Sixthly, grout in between the artificial stones unless you are using open joints. Open joints are not recommended for outdoor veneers. Use a grout that is recommended by the manufacturer of the stones. Follow the instructions for mixing. Insert the grout between the stones using a grouting bag. Smooth it down with a joint tool, narrow putty knife and/or a round wooden dowel. Wipe excess grout that gets on the stones with a damp rag or sponge. Seal the grout with a grout sealer and a paintbrush. Finally, let me have a short conclusion.
