Eat a balanced diet! As well as being good for your figure and your skin, a balanced diet is also good for your hair. To remain healthy, hair needs a constant supply of vital vitamins and minerals, all of which are found in certain foods. Foods which are particularly beneficial to hair include protein-rich beans and fish, yogurt, almonds and other nuts. To keep your hair (and yourself) hydrated; drink plenty of water throughout the day. Staying hydrated will also make you less tired, boost your concentration levels, and improve your skin. Never brush wet hair Brushing wet hair is a big no-no, but we all know how difficult it can be to get a brush through hair that's left to dry without first being brushed. The solution is simple; invest in a good conditioner. Brushing your hair while it’s wet will damage your hair, make it brittle, and cause your ends to split. Be careful in the sun It's summertime, but while you're enjoying the sun, spare a thought for your poor hair. Even in the winter, the sun’s rays are strong enough to dry hair out, so imagine what it's like in summer? Try to keep your hair-up while you're out, and invest in hair products that offer protection from the sun. Also, keep drying and straightening your hair to an absolute minimum; styling in the heat will just increase the right at which your hair dries out. And, while we’re on the topic of heat-styling, it’s a good idea to invest in an effective heat-protector spray or hair balm for everyday use. Relax We all know that too much stress is bad for us, but did you know it can be bad for your hair, too? Stress encourages the production of sebum (the natural oil that your hair makes to protect itself) and can therefore lead to hair becoming greasy. Extreme amounts of stress can sometimes cause hair to fall-out, so it's really important to put some time aside to relax and rejuvenate. Don’t smoke Smoking affects our health in so many ways that it's not surprising that it also has the potential to damage our hair. Cigarette smoke robs hair of its lustre, leaving it dry, brittle, and lank. Keep on top of it! Book-in to see your hairdresser regularly (say, every six to eight weeks) to get your dead-ends trimmed and make sure your hair's in top-top condition. It's common for people who are trying to grow their hair out to avoid their hairdresser like the plague, but this isn't healthy; surprisingly, hair has more chance of growing longer and healthier if you have the dead-ends trimmed off regularly (just a tiny trim, mind!).
