Summer's here to stay, but what exactly does that mean for our wardrobes? Well, in short, it means out with the shorts and in with the dresses, as dresses have come-out on top this year in the summer style stakes, leaving skirts and shorts wilting in their wake. Let’s take a quick look at this year’s hottest summer frocks! 1. The floral-print midi dress. It's summertime, and the world's in bloom, so let's start our countdown with the summer-themed floral-print midi-dress. So far, the printed-midi has been one of this year's most popular must-have gowns, coming in an awesome assortment of patterns and colours, and this sun-inspired addition is definitely on track to continue 2013's midi trend. 2. The bodycon Regardless of whether you love it or you hate it, you can't deny that the bodycon has cooked up a storm this year - a storm that's set to continue to rage well into the summer. Famous for its tight, figure-hugging fabric, the bodycon works by accentuating the breasts and the hips, and creating a perfect, Marilyn-Monroe style hourglass figure ... the only problem with it is that it accentuates everything else as well, if you get my drift. If in doubt, buy your bodycon in the next size up, and invest in a sturdy pair of confidence-boosting control pants. 3. The maxi Hooray, it’s summertime, and if we’re guaranteed anything, it’s the introduction of a brand-new collection of marvellous maxi dresses. This summer-staple stuns as either beach wear, day wear, or evening wear, and is guaranteed to be available in a vibrant variety of colours, patterns and styles. Its trade-mark skirt eases over the body, and skims cleanly over bums and thighs, slimming them instantly. 4. The Skater Remember this one? Course you do! The skater first made its appearance earlier this year, when it was teemed with scarves, tights and ankle boots to create an adorable, wintry look. Now, though, the skater’s here for summer, and can be paired simply with a pretty pair of sandals and a sweet headband for a girly summer outfit. 5. The denim pinny Denim’s had a massive come-back this year, replacing last year’s leather. Dungarees have come back, too, making for great casual wear. But if you’re looking for something a little less cow girl, and a little more cute girl, there’s the dungaree-inspired denim pinafore dress. It’s great for those dress-down days when it’s too hot for jeans; simply team with a plain tee and your favourite hi-tops for a vintage nineties look.
