Alcohol can have a surprising influence on high blood pressure and this article will reveal some things that might surprise you. I’m going to predict that you probably know that high blood pressure is unhealthy. Also called hypertension, high blood pressure pushes against the walls of arteries and veins that transport the blood. Now if someone pushes you, unless you’re a total wimp you’re probably going to push back. When these passageways push back it leads to them becoming narrower. Just like blowing a piece of paper out of a straw if the straw is narrower and smaller you have to work harder. This also increases the chance of complete blockage, which could lead to a shutdown of the entire system and this is called a heart attack or a stroke. Do you know what the most dangerous aspect of high blood pressure is? It’s the fact that someone can be having it and not have any symptoms, so it’s a silent killer. Have you heard somewhere that drinking a modest amount of alcohol can be beneficial? Perhaps you have heard of the French Paradox? Basically the paradox is that heart disease is really low in France, yet the population consumes so much saturated fat, and some experts believe that it has to do with their consumption of red wine. In two recent studies within Japan show that even a modest amount of alcohol raises the risk of hypertension. The first study contained more than 5,000 male Japanese workers between the ages 20-60 for over 4 years. They were divided into categories by how much alcohol they drank. The conclusion was the more alcohol someone drank the worst their blood pressure became. The surprising fact is that even the group that drank just a tiny amount of alcohol, still had worse blood pressure than if they didn’t drink alcohol. Another study in Japan followed around 1,000 people that were over the age of 40 for ten years. The conclusion was that the risk of developing high blood pressure increased for both men and women who drank, even those who drank a glass of wine a day. So the moral of the story is that drinking alcohol is bad for blood pressure. So you might be wondering what the heck can someone do to reduce this health problem? The solutions are fairly obvious in my opinion. This would include losing weight, quit smoking, exercise more, reduce sodium intake, eat healthy, and reduce stress. All these solutions are fairly common sense right? Another thing that someone could do which is very easy would be taking various supplement products. Now when it comes to what supplements to take I seriously could write a 100 page book about it, but I’ll share some great ideas to start you off. Fish oil supplements are a fantastic choice, and not only help the heart, but do so many other really beneficial things. Garlic is another excellent one that not only fights off vampires and the common cold, but helps blood flow. The last herb I’m going to advertise that would be an excellent choice for this problem would be coq10. There was one study with 2 groups of people; one group took 120 mg’s of coq10 daily and the other a placebo pill. After three months the group that took the coq10 had a reduction in their blood pressure by 17.8 mm HG. There really are tons of other ideas, and I would highly recommend checking out a free guide that I wrote on the topic of shopping for supplements. It goes over various herbs someone should be taking, herbs to avoid, dosage amounts and most importantly how to spot a safe product because government agencies don’t really have the resources to validate that all the products are safe and effective. It’s really up to the consumer to do this. To view this free guide simply click on the link free guide to choosing herbal supplements. Thanks for your time and enjoy the rest of the day.
