The Bali Bird Park is two hectares of avian paradise situated in Gianyar. A trip to this park is ideal for bird watchers, nature lovers, couples, families and friends on vacation. The park is home to over a thousand birds from over two hundred different species. It boasts the largest and most comprehensive collection of Indonesian birds. Not only does the park house a variety of indigenous bird species, it also has birds from South America and Africa. The birds are showcased in a mixture of enclosures and areas built to mimic their natural habitats. The massive park is divided into several areas dedicated to birds from different regions. The bird park also features large aviaries which visitors can walk around and explore. Among the local birds found here are the extremely rare Bali starling, the Javan hawk and the serpent eagle. South American birds include toucans and Scarlet macaws. In the African section one can find birds such as the Congo grey parrot. Birds such as pelicans, storks, cranes and cassowaries roam about freely throughout the park. The park is open daily from 9.00 am to 5.30 pm. The price of admission is small and definitely worth it. Free guided tours are provided for large groups, although one has to book this facility in advance. The park has an excellent restaurant where visitors can grab a bite to eat after exploring the place. Pets are not allowed into the park. Before leaving one should stop by the gift shop to peruse the high quality souvenirs available for sale.
