Keyword research has always been an important part of online promotion. There were more people who abused it by hiding keywords within their website's content than there were doing it properly. Google and other search engines have become much more intelligent and now blacklist websites who practice behaviors like this. This is not just for websites either - it's for all content on the web. So you need to play close attention to your article marketing practices as well. If you do keyword research correctly, it will position your articles for performing well in search results. By using these terms, you are clearly dictating the topic of the article so Google and other search engines can rank the page in searches based on this criteria. These are the 3 most important pieces of the keyword research as it dictates the possible traffic you could see per keyword. Some keywords will have low competition and some higher. I would be more inclined to focus on those with little competition. This would ensure a better chance of popping up in organic searches. Competition: If you own a business and are doing article marketing for promotion, you likely have competition, just like your business does. It will be extremely important to do some research on your competition and the keywords they use. This will enable you to tackle their keyword list and hopefully within time take their traffic and convert it to your traffic. You can start by reading the content on their website and articles and highlight any keywords that might have been repeated numerous times. You can also view the source code of their website and find out their Meta keywords they use to optimize for search engines. Use this information to help guide your keyword direction. Change: Most importantly you need to be willing to change the targeted keywords you use in article marketing as trends change. You might find that just a minor change in your keywords could play a hefty part in the improvement of your article marketing. The terms people use to describe things also change. If the time comes and you must change your submitted articles, go ahead and take this time to refresh the content with up-to-date information. This will keep the articles you write relevant and current. As said before, keyword research is an extremely important part of successful article marketing. Using the correct targeted keywords can improve the performance of your submitted articles ten-fold if done correctly.
