Wednesday, 02 May 2012 Harris CapRock Communications, a global provider of fully managedcommunications for remote and harsh environments, has signed afive-year agreement with cruise operator Royal Caribbean Cruises to provide communications services onboard its fleet of 34 ships inthe Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and AzamaraClub Cruises brands. The hybrid satellite and terrestrialcommunications solution will enable Royal Caribbean to dramaticallyimprove overall communications performance while enhancing guestexperience and crew morale. "An important part of that experience is thecommunications service made available to them and making sure itperforms above their expectations. We set a goal to change themarket expectations for onboard communications, and with HarrisCapRock's innovative solution, our guests will be able to remainconnected with friends and family onshore in ways not possible onany other cruise ship." To meet Royal Caribbean's needs for vessel administration, guestsatisfaction and crew welfare, Harris CapRock will deploy a fullymanaged, end-to-end Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) andterrestrial communications solution that will enable access toRoyal Caribbean's corporate network and business applications,broadband Internet, and telephony services. Royal Caribbean willreceive equipment, installation, maintenance, service and 24/7proactive monitoring and support from Harris CapRock's globalCustomer Support Center. The hybrid solution combines Ku-band, C-band and shore wirelessconnectivity, designed so that the ships can switch seamlessly fromone preferred platform to another to maximize service availabilityand avoid downtime. Each ship will be equipped with two or three ofHarris CapRock's stabilized VSAT antenna systems to provide theoptimal level of flexibility and availability.
