Being actively involved in your community is something Marc Walker of Reno not only enjoys but encourages. It is easy to feel disconnected while juggling work, school, kids and other extracurricular activities, but Marc Walker of Reno says it is important to make time for your fellow man. Marc Walker of Reno is involved in Disabled Sports USA, where he helps those with disabilities build confidence and independence. There are many reasons for wanting to be more involved in your community such as to help others, to learn something new or just to meet new people. So how can you get involved? Marc Walker of Reno shares several ways on how you can become an active member of your community. - Volunteer. Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community. You can support families by volunteering at a daycare or retirement home. You can also support youth in the community through mentoring programs or public schools. Marc Walker of Reno also believes it is important to involve your children. He says by volunteering, kids will not only learn what it means to make and keep a commitment but also that we are all responsible for the wellbeing of our communities.
- Join a club or group. This is a great way to meet new people in your community who share similar interests. Marc Walker of Reno has been involved in the Lake Tahoe Stand Up Paddleboard Club for two years. He says it is a great way to strengthen the bond among members of a community.
- Donate. This is a great way to help those in need. You can organize a garage sale with your neighbors and donate the money to a local non-profit organization. Any items that don’t sell such as books or clothes can also be donated.
Being involved is a great way to make a difference in the lives of those around you. Marc Walker of Reno believes this not only brings people together but strengthens your community. http://www.volunteermatch.org/ http://kidshealth.org/parent/positive/family/volunteer.html# http://students.ucsd.edu/student-life/involvement/community/reasons.html
