It's getting close to Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 2nd for 2013), and this end-of-the-summer holiday will be here sooner than you might realize. If you are thinking about going to the Grand Canyon then, you better book your tour soon. By booking quickly you'll be able to snag the tour of your choice at a great price. All Grand Canyon airplane tours will be flying on their regular schedules over the holiday weekend. You can catch an air tour from Tusayan or Las Vegas hourly throughout the day. The first departure is seven in the morning and the flights end at sunset. The flights originating in Tusayan, Arizona go only to the South Rim but the tours out of Vegas can go to the West Rim or the South Rim. You have to pick one rim or the other because no flights connect the two rims. Lots Of Choices If you fly to the Grand Canyon from Vegas, you have the most options for touring the region. The basic air tour flies over the main landmarks of the canyon as well as Lake Mead and Hoover Dam. Air-only tours are great, but my personal favorites are the West Rim landing tours because they're more comprehensive. These drop you off on top of the rim but you can hop on a helicopter and fly to the canyon floor. And once you're on the bottom, you could take a smooth-water rafting tour down the Colorado! The West Rim is the only part of the National Park where choppers can fly down to the canyon floor. It's a unique, awesome experience. South Rim flights are in the air for about 50 minutes. You will also fly over to the North Rim and the eastern boundary of the Park. You can take a rafting tour on the Colorado River at the South Rim too, plus you can go see the Slot Canyons on a Jeep tour. The Airplanes The 19-passenger airplanes used for these tours are ideal for sightseeing. Their wings attach to the fuselage so they don't block your view, plus the windows are oversized, and they have ultra comfortable seats that recline. Personal headsets are provided so passengers can listen to a pre-recorded narration of the tour (up to ten languages are available). Book Your Tour Soon Labor Day 2013 falls on a Monday, making it a three-day weekend for most Americans. In addition, it is the last holiday of summer vacation, so a lot of people will visit the Park. You should try to get your tickets one or two weeks in advance of your tour date. There is always a chance you can get last minute tickets, but there is a better chance you will get shut out. Be sure to book your tour online. That's where you'll find the best prices-especially on the websites owned by the tour companies themselves. These companies own and operate the tours and they always offer the best deals and discounts. The Bottom Line If past holidays are any indication, Labor Day will be bustling at the Grand Canyon. Make sure you lock down your flight before the tours are sold out. There will be plenty of seats when you book early, and doing it online will save money too. Just complete your purchase directly on the tour company website so you can qualify for the low Internet discounted rate. ----------------------------- All set to fly Grand Canyon National Park?
