When you are a novice to online marketing, the field can seem so intimidating, especially if you have no prior knowledge of the field. Online marketing can be overwhelming, especially when you are new and only beginning to learn about the field. One will say that you need to be patient if you want to be the next big thing. Another will state that you must be very smart about business if you wish to be the next big thing. Still, another will tell you that creative thinking is what will make you successful. And, of course, you can't forget about all of the people saying that all you have to do is pay for their software system if you want to be the next big name in IM! The truth is that all of these things are essential to your success (well, perhaps not all of those software systems, but the other stuff). You must be patient and smart about business and creative if you wish to be successful. None of these things count much, all the same, if you are unable to communicate well with people. Good communication involves more than simply having a well-written sales page. A skilled copywriter can take care of that part of your project. Good communication is more than having a beautiful site with a lengthy FAQ area. A seasoned designer and writer can do those things. Good communication requires being good with interpersonal communication and in direct copy also. So, what exactly should you do to accomplish that that? 1. See to it that any email doesn't sit unreplied to for over 24 hours. This is no jest. Your reply doesn't need to be very long. All you have to do is tell the original writer that you have read the email and will be answering it in full shortly. It is a good idea to include a portion of the email that references something the the other person has written. This indicates to the person that you actually care about them and are not an autoresponder. 2. Try not to let the phone ring and ring. Avoid screening telephone calls. What you should do is specify clear business hours during which you can answer the phone. Make sure that the individuals you send messages and emails to really have received them. This will tell the person that you genuinely care about communicating with them. It will endear you even further if you include something like, "Is there anything that I can be more clear about?" so that, if they have queries, you can answer them.
