Nerds have a difficult time all year much less on the first day of school. However, the term “nerd” is derogatory in describing someone as socially impaired or overly intellectual. For someone to be socially impaired implies they do not belong and are a social outcast. This is so far from the truth. Nerds are the coolest people in the school because they understand the reason why school is available and take every advantage of the opportunity to grow and learn from the experience. What about the cool students who think nerds are a social-outcast? What does it mean to be cool and dumb? Absolutely nothing. I am not saying it is anything wrong with coolness but coolness eventually pays a heavy price and maintaining good grades is not a prerequisite to remain on the cool list coupled with peer pressure straps the intelligence of the cool kids to fit in and not grasp the opportunity of the school experience of learning. ?Who said nerds are social-outcast? I contend in the beginning of school students identify who they want to hang out with but why hang out with anyone. You are in school to learn, exchange your views during lunch or on the way home. Take notes from the so-called nerds and grasp as much information in the classroom as humanly possible. Take remedial test to increase scores in areas where you may be weak at ASVAB but do not sit and idle away precious time. Your time in school will be over before you know it and you will be ready to enter the workforce. Whether you decide to go to college or choose a career path to take on the civilian side of the working world, increase your skill level while you are in school now. Finally, in the stereotypical high-school situation, there will be loners, outcast, and extremely popular persons; you have to decide where you will fit in and how fitting in will benefit your long-term goals.
