A writer has to consider giving significant attention to the opening paragraph of his article. Some authors consider this as the hardest part. Imagine you have to summarize your article making it brief and captivating. If you are a chess player, you know how important an opening move is. Knowing several famous opening chess moves will get you the upper hand against your opponent. The same is true for a writer. Before even attempting to write, try to figure who are your readers. Know the kind of content they are looking for. You can color the opening sentences with the captivating words making it concise and direct to the point. Write the opening sentences in such a way that a reader can visualize it. You can hypnotize them with benefits they can get if they finish reading your article. This can intrigue the audience and motivate them to go ahead to the next series of paragraphs. By all means, do not give your audience a reason to stop reading! There are several things a writer aims to do while writing his or her opening paragraphs: • Setting the right tone • Provoke a response from the readers • The SEO strength of the publication Setting The Right Tone This is simply creating an atmosphere to nail down your reader's attention. Some expert writers suggest a shock treatment in the opening sentence. Another one would say, opening it with words that get to the readers like a gunshot! This kind of technique delivers a startling idea to the audience and compels them to continue reading. A shocking example could be: "Male from one corner of the world has delivered a baby girl!" If you are reading such a statement, I do not know if it's not going to disrupt your thoughts, make you sit up and take notice! Provoke a Response from the Readers A good opening statement is one that is absorbing and provocative, something that would make a reader grimace, laugh, or grasp. It should get their attention, pushing them to finish whatever they are reading. Give them that itchy feeling to end to give some comments or reactions. SEO Strength Every time I come across an article on the web, I seek for confirmation from the first paragraph, if the content I would like to read is there, otherwise I do not stay too long. Other readers might do the same if your introductory paragraph does not have the right keyword for your content. They are going to leave your website. People surfing the web for sure is aware that Google for one looks for the important keyword right there from the start in the opening paragraph. A warning maybe be emphasized though, that overdoing your keywords will absolutely not make Google put you on the highest rank. It may even overkill the value of your piece. Include a preview of some benefits so that a reader might be attracted to stay till the end.
