Management degrees are steadily gaining popularity among students, who see these as the keys, with which they can open doors to major multinational companies. Indeed, management degrees are necessary to gain managerial positions in most companies. In fact, some companies require that a new employee have some kind of degree or at least a certification in one or the other form of business management. Problem is, with many students getting jobs straight out of college, there is often little time in their hands to go for a full-fledged MBA degree, spending 2 years in a residential facility. Then there are students, who find it difficult to pay the fees, which are often rather high in business schools. Could online MBA courses solve these dilemmas? Diploma in management course offered online does sound wonderful, right? Indeed, such an arrangement could provide quite a few advantages to students lacking time or financial resources, or maybe even both. In fact, there are a few advantages of such a degree that we can realize right now, without even thinking deeply: No commuting required – Well, first off, the students would not have to travel to any institution from home. So, it alone should help them save quite a bit of time. The farther the student lives from the nearest business school, the greater will be the amount of time he (or she) is able to save. Option to study, any time, anywhere – Since the classes will be held online instead of in a facility with fixed schedules, students should be able to take the classes whenever they have some time in hand, perhaps even at the end of the day, when they are home after work. Also, if the learning material is accessible online, then they might also be able to study a bit when they are at work, using their mobile devices. Unlimited number of students per class – This one should be pretty obvious. Since there is no physical classroom, the number of students attending each class can actually be unlimited. That way, business schools might also be able to admit some students, who may not have scored as high as others in entrance examinations, but exhibited excellent leadership qualities during interviews. Reduced fees – Since the tuition is being offered online, the lecturers only need to be paid once for every topic. That means B-schools would be able to offer those lectures in video formats online, charging a much lower fee than what is usually charged in actual classrooms. However, even with all the advantages, the disadvantages of online MBA courses cannot be ignored either. The following are particularly alarming: Lack of interaction with faculty: Since the students will be studying in virtual, online classrooms, they will not be able to interact with faculty members directly. This can be a serious problem, especially when they are studying subjects that can be tricky to learn. Besides, the students may not be able to clear up any doubts they have on time, which can reduce the level of understanding they have about the subject. Less motivation to study: True, most students with jobs pay for their B-school degrees with their own pay checks. While that should be motivation enough, nothing beats the experience of interacting with other students about studies and swapping notes. When studying alone, it is easy for a student to get distracted, which can reduce the effectiveness of studies over time. In spite of these disadvantages, online MBA courses might indeed be the future for business management courses, across the globe. The advantages that such courses provide seem to far outweigh the few problems that can occur, after all.
