Any trip to Las Vegas you might be planning wouldn't be complete unless your itinerary includes a Grand Canyon helicopter flight. Aerial views of the National Park are widely regarded as some of the most magnificent sights on the planet! Some tours on Las Vegas helicopters even let you add exciting opportunities on the ground, like the fabulous Grand Canyon Skywalk, Colorado River rafting or a 4x4 ride. Flights To The Grand Canyon You can book a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon every day of the week including holidays. Grand Canyon helicopters that fly to the West Rim offer tours that last from three to seven hours. You can also charter a helicopter flight if you want, but it costs quite a bit to do that. Las Vegas helicopters only fly to Grand Canyon West, a/k/a the West Rim. The South Rim is just too far away for them. If you'll be based in Vegas but you really want to visit the South Rim, don't concede defeat. One thing you can do is book a plane tour to the South Rim that comes with a chopper tour of the canyon once you are there. The plane flight to the National Park takes less than 60 minutes, and the 'copter ride is awesome! The great thing about going to the West Rim is helicopters are allowed to fly down to the canyon floor there. It is a pretty thrilling descent and once you are at the bottom, you can catch a rafting tour of the Colorado River. Vegas Departures Grand Canyon helicopters depart from several different heliports in the region. The ones located on the Strip are the easiest to get to from the major Vegas hotels. Those flights will cost you more than tours that leave from Boulder City, which is a 30-minute shuttle ride from the Strip. Air Tours Of The South Rim You should take the South Rim tour if you will depart from Sedona, Phoenix, Tusayan, or a lodge in Grand Canyon Village. The helicopters for these tours take off from the Grand Canyon National Park Airport, which is located by the main gates to the National Park in Tusayan. You can choose from a helicopter tour of the South Rim that lasts 50 minutes or 30 minutes. With the short flight, your chopper takes you to the North Rim and back, and you see some amazing scenery. The 50-minute version does too, but also covers the canyon up to the eastern boundary of the Park. The longer flight is a fantastic way to appreciate the Grand Canyon because it lets you see nearly 3/4 of the entire region! Booking Your Seats It is highly recommended to get your seats early. Try to book your helicopter tour at least one week before your tour date if at all possible. By doing this, your tickets will be cheaper and you'll have more flight times from which to choose (in my opinion, flights before noon and sunset flights are the best times of day for chopper tours). You should get your seats online too, just avoid the big travel deal sites. Instead, I recommend booking direct, with the tour companies themselves. The tour operators always have special promotions going on and they can offer you the lowest rates on your tour. Be sure to complete your transaction through their online form. Doing that gets you the Internet rate and saves money on your tour! -------------------------------- Tips from the Author Are you ready to fly on a helicopter?
