Tuesday, 22 May 2012 At a ceremony Monday, May 21, Holland America Line was presented agold 2012 Rear Admiral William M. Benkert Environmental ProtectionAward from the U.S. Coast Guard in recognition of the line senvironmental leadership and for successfully achieving severalenvironmental objectives established by the company that exceedstandard regulation. U.S. Coast Guard Commandant Admiral RobertPapp presented the award to Michael Inman, director, systemmanagement and program development, Safety and EnvironmentalManagement Systems for Holland America Line. The company firstreceived the biennial award in 2010. The U.S. Coast Guard Benkert Award was bestowed by a panel ofexperts based on a thorough review of the line s comprehensiveapproach to environmental stewardship. Besides the prestigeassociated with the Benkert Award, the award application processoffers a venue for the creative exchange of ideas and innovations,and heightens awareness and underscores the innovation required toachieve environmental excellence.
