The use of the acupuncture needle has to be with a well trained practitioner. The practitioner employs various methods in inserting the needle and the depth of the needle depends on the point it is being applied and the depth of the target acupuncture point. The commonly used needle is the filiform needle that carries out most of the acupuncture treatments. There is also the three edged needle used with the intention of releasing few blood droplets. There is also the press acupuncture needle type. This is a needle with a specialty for it can be left on a particular acupoint in an amount of time. This can go as long as three days with the needles still in place. These needles are short and have a small loop at their base to prevent them from sliding in too far in the skin.
