The rise of alcohol and drug addiction has resulted in the emergence of different types of alcohol and drug rehab centers in United States. Most of these alcohol and drug rehab centers have some basic set of rules of conduct that must be followed by the patients or its inhabitants. The patients attending to various alcohol and drug rehab programs have some rules and exceptions that are specific to that program or location. However, there are some basic rules that the clients/patients are usually required to adhere to while undergoing alcohol and drug rehab programs and these include: 1. To maintain confidentiality about other clients during the treatment, 2. Adhering to the smoking policy required within the premises, 3. Participating in all group activities under various alcohol and drug treatment programs that include any holistic methods, 12-step meetings etc, 4. Prohibition of drinking any alcoholic beverages or use of illicit drugs or abuse of prescription medications unless prescribed and approved by the doctor of the concerned alcohol/drug rehab center, 5. To attend on time for all schedule classes, groups and appointments, 6. The clients/patients are not permitted to carry weapons within the premises of rehab centers. These weapons include small knives, box cutters, multi-tools and other potentially dangerous items. This is an important rule as some the patients or clients have suicidal tendencies during the course of their rehab treatment programs. Some may even be driven to the point of violence or may be suicidal if given an opportunity. 7. Patients in the alcohol and drug rehab centers are generally not permitted to indulge in romantic relationship with other residents or staff. Sexual intercourse at most of the faculties is strictly prohibited. However, there are some exceptions to this ‘no relationship rule’ when couples attend the same treatment center together. However, relationships between patients and staff are prohibited or forbidden and if carried on may result in serious disciplinary action in addition to professional sanctions. 8. Violence of any kind such as verbal harassment, threatening, abuse, bullying, insulting or name-calling is not tolerated in majority of alcohol and drug rehab centers. Even when some form of violence does happen, the patients are required to maintain their composure and decorum as per the code of conduct and must learn to express their frustrations and problems in a healthy manner. These are some of the basic rules/code of conduct followed by majority of alcohol and drug rehab centers in United States.
