Landscape edging is often overlooked when designing the layout for your yard or garden. There are several different edging types available, such as stone, plastic, brick, or metal. Which one should you choose for your landscape edging? Here is some information about each to help you make a better decision on your landscape edging. Stone Landscape Edging Stone landscape edging, or some other masonry type of edging, is one that can add a more rustic feel to your yard. Cutting stone requires specialized tools and techniques. However, when completed, stone edging is firmly set in place. One of the major drawbacks of stone edging is that it will allow weeds and grass to grow through the cracks, in between the rocks. This can be fixed with frequent applications of weed killer if stone edging is what you think will complete your design. Costs can vary according to the type of stone you want to use. Basic sandstone is relatively inexpensive, while river rock or flat stones can be costly. Plastic Landscape Edging One of the most popular among do it yourself landscapers is plastic landscape edging. It is lightweight, inexpensive, and easy to work with. You can get plastic landscape edging in a wide variety of colors and styles to meet any design you may have. There are flexible and rigid types of plastic edging available for easy customization. Plastic landscaping stone edging, however, can be damaged by lawn mowers, tractors, and even weed eaters if you are not careful. Replacing some of the plastic edges might require a complete replacement of all the plastic. However, for a very quick solution to edging, plastic edging makes a great choice. Brick Landscape Edging A major edging material is also brick. Many walkways, paths, stone walls, and edging for lawns are made out of brick. Bricks are quite economical and add a traditional look to your landscaping. They can be easy to work with, but do require extensive labor to install correctly. Unlike working with plastic, you need to create a firm foundation for the bricks or they will be loose, uneven, and cause problems. Also, if you do not take the time to install them correctly they can become overrun with weeds and grass. When choosing to work with brick make sure you have a level area and some friends to help you carry them to where you need them. Metal Landscape Edging Most landscape contractors will work with metal. It is more expensive than other sources, but it is very durable and will last for a long time. This edging can be found as an in-the-ground border or as metal ornaments that line the lawn, path, or other place where edging is concerned. When working with metal landscape edging, you will need to have some special metal working tools and skills. Finally, let me have a short conclusion.
