We 'Humans' are ambitious creatures. The progress we have made over thousands of years is the most relevant example of inquisitiveness we have inherit. We adhere to the curiosity of making things possible, coming up with new ideas; making them happen and turn them into reality. In the same process of devising new technology, Zambia, KITWE added a new chapter, where a group of people are looking to curb deforestation by introducing a new type of cookstove, which runs solely on clean fuel, into Zambian households. Today, Zambia stands to be one of the most aggressive sites of deforestation in the world due to heavy consumption of wood in household. It might not sound as modish as its counterparts being developed in other parts of the world but a place which looses between 600,000 and 750,000 acres of its 125 million acres of forest each year. Can really make a big difference. We should never judge the extent or the scope of any technology on the conventional, but unfamiliar new features but the implications it might cause. For example, currently more than 60 million people do not have access to electricity and meet their energy needs by other means. The rural poor has spend $3-10 per month on batteries for flashlights or kerosene for lanterns, which emit harmful fumes and pose a fire hazard. There are many, who cannot even afford these options or find alternatives and thus face limited productivity by nightfall. To address this grim situation a new initiative has been introduced which will distribute Solar lanterns to the people, its an affordable, safe alternative that will save families both time and money, while increasing productivity. Solar lantern might not sound a very new concept but the potential change it could bring in the lives of 60 million people would be huge. LED technology again, might not be a very new concept but it is very resilient and dependable fuel. Its a great alternative to save energy and money. LED technology is a revolutionary idea in the progression of bringing up a bulb that use 75% to 80% less energy. They last longer and are not toxic like CFL's. Can we possibly imagine the amount of energy a country like India or china can save, by cutting their consumption by 70 % using LED's. And eventually can control the carbon footprints that causes the dreadful Global warming. To read and know more http://bit.ly/17sPtx9
