Cogenra Solar has partnered with Southern California Gas Company to pilot a solar cogeneration project that can generateelectricity and hot water, and then use stored heat to power anabsorption chiller and cool the building. The solar coolingelement, which can be added to existing cogeneration systems, willbe marketed to a variety of commercial customers in the datacenter, hotel and food and beverage industries, among others. The St. Louis Development Corporation has been selected to receive $400,000 from the EPA to assess and plan cleanup of hazardous substances and petroleumin the metro area. The funding was awarded through EPA'sBrownfields Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund and Cleanup Process.Since 2003, EPA has awarded more than $4.2 million to addressbrownfield properties in St.
Louis. Lime Energy has become a pre-approved contractor for the NSTAR Municipal Program , which gives municipalities in the utility's serviceterritory incentives to make energy efficiency improvements. Theprogram is part of the Green Communities Act, which allowsMassachusetts agencies and local governmental bodies to contractdirectly with their gas or electric utility for energy conservationprograms. The program aims to retrofit existing electricaland mechanical systems that are outdated or inefficient. CALMAC has installed its Icebank thermal energy storage tanks at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas.
The system is expected to help cut electricitybills by cooling office space during peak demand hours. PowerSecure International has received orders for more than 25,000 of its energy-efficientLED lights, including contracts for its new walk-in cooler lightsdesigned for retailers, and its product for utilities. The orders,which will be shipped primarily in the last three quarters of 2012,are expected to generate $5 million in revenue. Smart grid company Comverge has partnered with Entergy Arkansas to implement a virtual peaking capacity program, which will helpthe utility meet its energy efficiency and demand managementtargets mandated by the Arkansas Public Service Commission . Comverge will provide 15 MW of capacity to Entergy Arkansasthrough energy management software, hardware and services, as partof the multi-million dollar agreement.
Sprint has announced agreements with Metrum Technologies and Tollgrade Communications to provide utilities with wireless infrastructure aimed atimproving the efficiency of distribution and management systems.Metrum's line of smart meters is now available with Sprintwireless connectivity. As part of the agreement, Tollgrade willoffer medium voltage sensors, which provide fault detection andlocation, asset management and load monitoring for utilities, withSprint wireless connectivity by June this year. Metrum andTollgrade will use the Sprint M2M Command Center, a web-basedportal that allows both companies to securely manage, activate andde-activate each smart grid device.
