Most people don’t like to talk about how good they are. It feels uncomfortable and unnecessary – it’s better to be modest and let other people decide if you’re any good at what you do, right? Wrong. It doesn’t work that way. People can only experience how good your service or product is AFTER they’ve purchased it. But they won’t purchase anything if they don’t trust it’ll be worth their investment. You have to tell and show them the value of your service or product – how else will they know it’s any good? Most people – especially women – find this difficult and unpleasant. It can feel like boasting. But it’s not. There’s really no need to brag or pump up your ego. You don’t have to make yourself bigger than you are – but you don’t have to make yourself smaller than you are either! Just show people the REAL you – INCLUDING your talents, your gifts, and the value you deliver. These 3 tips help you with that: Tip #1: Know yourself and your talents. What is your unique ability? What are you REALLY good at? What do you bring to the table that others don’t? Get a crystal clear picture of ALL of your qualities, strengths and gifts. Set your modesty aside and make a list. You need to know what your good at before you can share it. Tip #2: OWN your talents and gifts. Deep down, you already KNOW what you’re good at. But before you can confidently share it, you need to own it. Appreciate your qualities. Acknowledge them. Value them. OWN them. That’s why it’s so important to get a crystal clear picture of yourself, and everything you’re good at. This helps you to accept and embrace our strengths. Take the time to explore this. Tip #3: Learn to receive compliments. What do you say when someone tells you you’ve done a good job? Do you gracefully accept the compliment and say ‘Thank you’? Or do you immediately start telling them it wasn’t that special, and you couldn’t have done it without help from others and a dose of good luck? Learn to receive and accept compliments. It makes you feel better about yourself and helps you own and embrace your talents. (And you may even discover some talents you didn’t know you had…) Bonus tip: Be mindful of the way you talk (and think) about yourself. What’s your self-talk like? Negative? Harsh? Respectful? Friendly? Loving? Judgmental? Here’s something to think about: Would you accept it if your best friend talked to you the way you talk to yourself? Or would you tell her to take a hike and don’t bother coming back? Do you talk to yourself in the same way you talk to the people you love most in the world? If not, it’s time to uplevel your self-talk. It will boost your confidence. Which makes it easier to powerfully and authentically communicate about yourself and your business. This week’s transformational action: Do you know what you’re good at? And if so, do others know it too? Ask yourself if you are REALLY allowing yourself to shine…or if you’re still hiding parts of who you are and what you’re good at. Allow yourself to shine even more than you already do. Use one of the tips I gave you in this article to help you with that. The tip that resonates most with you, is the one that will help you the most.
