A granite kitchen sink is a popular feature in many homes. Granite has many benefits which makes it ideal for a solid kitchen sink. It is one of the most durable materials you can choose for a kitchen sink. It doesn’t easily chip, crack or dent. Granite sinks don’t develop stains, which makes it easier to maintain your sink. Granite is also fade-proof and will maintain its color for several years. A well-kept granite sink adds an elegant touch to your kitchen. Fortunately, it doesn’t take much effort to clean your granite sink. Step 1 – Clean with Detergent Put on a pair of rubber gloves to protect your hands from cleaning agents. Clean the sink with a mild detergent and warm water. Use a soft scouring pad or soft nylon brush to clear away grime and other loose dirt. Be sure to scrub the entire sink for a thorough clean. Remember to clean the drain area and faucets where dirt and minerals tend to accumulate. Rinse with plenty of warm water to clear all traces of soap. Step 2 – Remove Limescale It is normal for limescale to build-up on granite sinks, especially where mineral content in water is high. Limescale causes the sink to loose its luster which makes it less attractive. A solution of white vinegar and warm water can help to clear limescale. Mix a cup of white vinegar with a cup of lukewarm water in a spray bottle. Spray the sink evenly and allow 10 to 15 minutes for the solution to work. Use a soft cloth to rub away the loosened dirt. Step 3 – Stubborn Stains Should you notice some stubborn spots, it is best to use baking soda to clear these. Make a thick paste out of baking soda and water. Apply on the spots and scrub gently with a soft cloth. Allow the paste to work for about 10 minutes then rinse with warm water. Step 4 – Dry Use a soft cloth to wipe the sink dry. Your granite sink should look as good as new with these simple steps. Be sure not to leave any wet scouring pads, cloths or containers on any part of the sink. These encourage limescale build up. Tips Rinse and dry your sink after each use. This helps to prevent mineral deposits once the water evaporates. It is best to keep the sink dry when not in use. Do not let water stand in the sink for a prolonged period. This will help prevent mineral build-up especially if water in your area has high mineral content. Do not use abrasive metal pads or steel wool to clean your sink. Remnants of these materials will rust and spoil the appearance of our sink. Keep away harsh cleaners and bleaches from your granite sink. These can discolor the sink and ruin its appearance. Finally, let me have a short conclusion.
