Kitchen countertops are the work centers of a home. They provide a space to cook meals and store dishes, and sometimes they end up as a dumping ground for the mail, school papers, phone books and clutter. An organized kitchen counter takes the stress out of cooking meals and keeps the household running smoothly. By creating zones and work areas, your kitchen will be more efficient. Invest some time now in creating a clear, organized kitchen counter. Instructions of organizing a kitchen counters step by step as follows: Firstly, clear and clean the counter. Take everything off the counter and place it on your kitchen table or a table in another room. Clear out the clutter and discard the broken items. Store the items that you seldom use in a cupboard. Give the counters a thorough cleaning. Secondly, organize the items that remain on the table. Group the like items together. Each of the groups will need a zone or a container on the kitchen counter. Thirdly, repurpose containers that you already have such as baskets, cookie jars, canning jars, coffee cans or canisters. Coordinate containers to match the kitchen. Fourthly, select a container to hold cooking utensils such as spatulas, large spoons and whisks. Place this container near the stove. Fifthly, invest in a holder for your knives. Place the holder near the food preparation area. Keep knives out of the reach of small children. Sixthly, create a message center that includes a calendar, phone, pens, papers and shopping lists. Set an empty basket in this area to collect mail and other papers. Hang a calendar on the refrigerator or wall. Keep pens, pencils and a scissors in a pencil holder. Seventhly, create a zone for cookbooks. Set out a few cookbooks that you use daily, and keep the rest stored on a bookshelf. Use a cookbook holder when cooking. Eighthly, organize the sponges, soap and scrubbers on a wire shelf or container above or near the sink. Use a dish rack to dry dishes. Ninthly, select decorative canisters to store baking ingredients such as flour and sugar. Place the canisters in a baking zone near the mixer and bowls. Tenthly, leave plenty of clear space on the counter to prepare food. Store a cutting board close to the food prep area. Tips & Warnings Organize the items in each zone with decorative containers.
