The modern world is witnessing new inventions and discoveries in the field of science and technology. The injection molding technology is one of them. Today, this technology is credited for being of great help to a number of industries. The injection molding technology is used to manufacture various types of parts with help of injection of materials into the molds. The materials used are of various kinds including thermosetting, thermoplastics, confections, etc. In order to manufacture a specific part, the material is fed inside a heated barrel. This is subsequently mixed and strained into a cast cavity. The liquefied state of the material takes the shape and pattern of the cavity it is put into. A lot of scientific thinking goes into designing the injection molding process. To start with, dedicated and experienced engineers design the product. Thereafter, appropriate molds are designed and manufactured by the mold makers. Metals such as steel are employed to make such molds. Due to their effectiveness in producing guaranteed results, this technology is rampantly used for manufacturing different kinds of parts. From the smallest ones to the complete body panel of cars, everything can be produced using this technology. Remember – the most integral part of the injection molding process is the mold’s design. At times custom molds are employed for making plastic parts for certain specific applications. The specific applications in question are those that need customized components to meet needs and requirements of the customers. Here, the plastic is melted and swiftly injected into the mold cavity. All this happens under a very high pressure environment. Once parts get accurately molded in desired shapes, these are ejected and the same procedure is repeated again. It may be noted, the injection molding technology rests on three things – injection into the machine, the melting of plastic and transmission of the plastic. Each aspect has its own importance and significance. For instance, the molds used are customized in patterns keeping in mind the product to be produced. Likewise, the clamping offered to regulate pressure is equally important. The molds used in the process usually come with a base together with one or more cavity filled with resin. It is the injection machine that is responsible for melting the plastic into plastic granules. To make sure the injection is done in the most accurate manner, a reciprocating screw or a ram injector is employed. After the injection process comes to an end, the mold is allowed to cool fully until the resin solidifies. Hence, it won’t be out of context to say – the entire process depends on accuracy of injection mold design.
