With the advancement of technology, new and incredible inventions are coming out nowadays. When one company introduces any device with including new technology, its rivals immediately start using same technology by introducing the same device with different features. Nowadays, there are many sensors we are hearing about in our daily life. This is not all about five sense organs of humans, this is all about sensors. Popularly known as detectors, sensors are used to transform any physical quantity into readable data through signals. In order to do different kinds of works, different types of sensors are invented. About Proximity Sensor Proximity sensor is simply a device which is used to sense and detect the nearby objects within normal frequency or vicinity of sensor without having any physical contact. How They Work? First of all, proximity sensors flash off infrared beam on anything which comes in its range and senses its reflections with which it detects the particular object nearby. There is an oscillator, a detector circuit, a ferrite coil and core, output circuit and a connector or cable used in Inductive Proximity Sensor. A sine wave is generated by oscillator in a fixed frequency to drive up the coil. This coil induces electromagnetic field in spite of ferrite core. The voltage of oscillator is reduced if any interruption occurs from metal object. The main reason of this reduction is the interruption of eddy currents which interrupt in the field lines. There is a circuit which detects this interruption. Proximity Sensors - Types Here are the types of Sensors used as per the requirements, material detection and so many things – 1. Inductive Proximity Sensor: While metal object either enter into the sensing area or stays inside, this sensor generates electrical or output signal. With an attempt to detect absolute orientation from various distances, it detects the metal objects of aluminum, brass, iron, copper and etc. 2. Capacitive Proximity Sensors: It is capable to also detect liquids, resins and powders, apart from detecting metals. As per the longevity of cable, noise sensitivity and material, the working of sensor depends. Also, the distance of sensing depends upon certain conditions like sensing object, temperature, distance of mounting among the sensors and surrounding objects. It can sense up to 25 mm. 3. Magnetic Proximity Sensors: As the name suggests, its work relies on AC, DC, AC/DC with no effect of electrical noise. Again, its sensing distance also relies on several factors like, surrounding objects, sensing objects, temperature and the distance of mounting among sensors with the range of around 120 mm. Bottom Line Today’s security programs, tablet PCs, and android phones use these sensors. And they make today’s smart phones even smarter, responsive and functional.
