The UGC (university grants commission) is a body that conducts National eligibility test (NET). The CSIR-NET (short for Council of Scientific and Industrial Research) in collaboration with the UGC conducts the UGC NET for subjects such as humanities, Environmental Sciences, Forensic Science, Computer Science and Applications, and Electronic Science. This examination is of extreme importance. Moreover, there are NET question papers that are available online or on the web portal. These question papers provide a vague idea to the candidates as to how the question paper would be. This test is conducted in various subjects which includes English and social sciences for the award of junior research fellowship. This examination is conducted for the persuasion of lectureship and PH.D research. The paper is divided into various papers. For instance, in the first paper it is basically a general paper that is intended to assess the research and the teaching aptitude without even excluding the reasoning ability, comprehension and general awareness of the candidates. Then is the second paper, which consists of short answer questions that are based on the subjects, opted by the students. It is entirely the choice of students and this choice is done on the basis of the subjects connected with them. For instance, if a student studied English as a major subject in his/ her bachelors then he will have to opt for this one. Another section is of the descriptive sections. This it is diversified into four sections. Section first requires candidates to write a critique of a given passage. Section two isanswered in a short answer format with the information provided. Another section is section third, which consists of questions based on the candidate’s specialization. The last section is section fourth which is based on answering essay type of questions. These essay type of questions are asked on general themes and contemporary, theoretical or disciplinary relevance to test the candidates ability to answer the paper critically. There are different set of books provided by different authors. And reading and understanding one book won’t make a difference. Students are supposed to read and understand various books, as understanding different subject related books will increase their level of thoughtfulness. Attempting JRF is not a cake walk. Clearing this examination is equivalent to clearing IAS examination. However, the opportunities after this are extremely great. The packages provided in these types of jobs are reputed. It has been assumed that once JRF is cleared, there is nothing else required.
