The Middle East automotive businesses have predicted an excess of 20 per cent growth at a steady rate for the next few years. Therefore, the number of cars in UAE is likely to be a lot more than it already is. This calls for more space for these cars are not in use. A number of commercial buildings have already started creating this extra space for car parks in UAE. A new car market project in Sharjah has opened a facility where more than 15,000 cars can be parked. Car park buildings are also constructed separately apart from the main building to cater to the increase in number of cars. Recently, renowned construction business has taken up a project to build Abu Dhabi’s first robotic car park which is strategically placed next to a famous hotel and resort. The car park is proposed to possess a capacity to house more than 325 cars and is also designed such that it blends in with the appearance of the hotel. The car park is to be built comprising of steel structures with facades. This new robotic car park is made of sophisticated mechanical systems and technical support such that the cars are rotated on their own and stacked in their parking bays. The whole process of parking and retrieval of the car does not take more than 60 seconds. This enables car parking to be a smooth and quick process for customers and visitors who stop by. The work is expected to take around 15 months which includes the testing and commissioning phases. The paid parking areas in Abu Dhabi have also expanded its reach and have created a lot more revenue than previous years. The newest paid parking areas are to be extended to the East of the region and some set up in the west and the south also. Parking charges are applicable from 8 in the morning to mid night and costs Dh 2 per hour or Dh 15 per day for standard spaces. The standard spaces can be recognized by their turquoise and black paint. Residents of building who do not have enough parking can apply for parking permits which cost them around Dh 800 per year for their first car and Dh 1200 a year for a second. But only two cars are allowed parking permits from each household. One advantage to this practice is that parking is free on official holidays but vehicles parked illegally will be fined heavily at any point. Therefore, car parks in UAE are changing in space and generating more revenue at the same time.
