Here are some frequently asked questions about Endometriosis for your reference. Q: What is Endometriosis? A: Put very simply, it is a disease or condition where tissue similar to the lining from the uterus is also found elsewhere in the body, normally in the abdominal cavity. Or it occurs when cells that normally line the inside of the womb implant and grow outside the uterus within the pelvis. Q: How is it diagnosed? A: Some physicians are able to diagnose endometriosis based on woman’s symptoms, although the only way to diagnose it without a doubt is during a laparoscopy (a small surgical process). An internal examination, ultrasound scans, MRI’s and CT scans may be undertaken but cannot be relied upon to diagnose endometriosis. Q: Is there any treatment available for it? A: Surgery is the only proven method for removal of endometriosis with long term research suggesting. To completely remove the disease, complete excision of endometrial deposits is required. Most surgical treatments are performed via the laparoscope, which involve the destruction of the endometriosis and can be done by laser. The recovery after the surgery will be determined by the amount of endometriosis is present and the extent of surgery performed.
