At least 35 people have been killed in a renewed Syrian regimeforces effort to regain control of the province of Homs in thecenter of the country in a new offensive to retake some territoriescontrolled by the Free Syrian Army. The attacks focused on the city of Quseir, near the border withLebanon, where at least six people died during Sunday alone,according to activists. Three others died in the bombing ofTalbiseh, north of the city of Homs, according to the SyrianObservatory for Human Rights (SOHR). "Tens of mortar shells have hit Quseir", said Abual-Huda, an activist in the city. He said that women and children,holed up for days in the basements of buildings, do not dare to goout. Meanwhile, the Syrian army, backed by helicopter gunships, bombedagain Sunday regions around the port city of Latakia in thenorthwest of the country, sending reinforcements to quell therebels, holed up for days on Heffa heights. These battles erupted last Tuesday and killed at least 58 peopleand injured 200 among the government forces, according to theopposition. SANA added that the armykilled a number of rebels and captured others. The opposition saidsix children are among the ten people killed Saturday by a shellduring the fighting. In addition, thousands of people attended the funeral Sunday ofnine people killed last night in Maaret al-Numan in the province ofIdlib (west). An amateur video released by the opposition shows theprocession, with residents paying tribute to the victims whosebodies were transported on makeshift stretchers. McCain urged the US Administration to provide directmilitary aid to the Syrian rebels. Moreover, Iran"s Fars news agency reports referring to theSyrian media that Free Syrian Army have received chemical weapons from Libya ,also they are training how to use combat poisonous gases in theircamps located in Turkey.
