If something gets spilled on to your carpet, prompt action is required to prevent staining.Carpet stains are a part of life. Fortunately, common household vinegar can remove them as easily as they came about. It is the recommendation of the National Carpet Cleaners Association to have the following items and solutions to hand for dealing with spillages as soon as possible: Clean white absorbent cloth or towel Dry Cleaning Solution - Surgical Spirit (usually available from local Chemists) Detergent Solution - One teaspoonful of gentle detergent for washing woollens, to half a pint (0.3 litres) of warm water Detergent Vinegar Solution - Add one teaspoonful of white (not malt) vinegar to the Detergent Solution Ammonia Solution - One teaspoonful of branded household Ammonia (available from hardware stores) to one cup of warm water Vinegar can remove even the toughest stains, including alcohol, perfume, cola, coffee and pet mess.Nothing can clean a stubborn stain better than a vinegar based solution. All you need to do is to mix 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water into a spray bottle and to use it with trust! First, spray the stained surface of the carpet. Place a cotton cloth on the stain and iron it using the steam setting. Repeat this process until the stain comes off. A mixture of 1 teaspoon of liquid detergent and 1 teaspoon of white distilled vinegar in a pint of lukewarm water will remove non-oily stains from carpets. Apply it to the stain with a soft brush or towel and rub gently. Rinse with a towel moistened with clean water and blot dry. Repeat this procedure until the stain is gone. Then dry quickly, using a fan or hair dryer. This should be done as soon as the stain is discovered. It turns out that the technique is just as important as the cleaning agent. You might go through a few towels, depending on the size of the spill you're dealing with. 4. Now it's time to apply the vinegar. On the "mist" setting, spray the entire area and spray it liberally. Get it good and soaked. Then, allow it to sit there for a while — five or 10 minutes should do it. 5. Once the vinegar has had a chance to soak in and work its magic, you'll use a clean towel to soak it up. Blotting works great here, but if you're just dying to rub or even scrub, have at it!
