We have been flocking to the tropics for centuries to find a better way, a slower way, a sunnier way. Nothing has changed – but is it the weather or the sand that makes the tropics special? Is there something in the air, in the water – or are the tropics within us always, carried like a torch wherever we go? The shapes, the colours, the feel of the tropics are visceral. They stay with you. They make an imprint on your soul and wherever you go, whatever you find yourself doing as time marches on, there it is, the tiny flame of the tropical island that captured your imagination so long ago. I designed these beautiful kaftans to capture that sense of place. Wherever you have been in the tropics, you know the feeling, and when you see these gorgeous garments – or, better, when you feel them against your skin – you will be transported back to that moment. Yes, that moment. The moment when the tropics became part of you. And from then on when you wear one of my Tropica collection, whether it’s in your living room looking out over a blizzard in the city while sipping some tea, or standing on a whole new beach, that first moment will come back to you, and you’ll feel the breeze in your hair again. I chose the Anthurium flower because they represent the tropics, the sea breeze, the bright sunshine and the near-total dark of night-time. Shaped like a heart, they demonstrate that once you visit the tropics a piece of you remains behind forever, calling out to you. Available in two colours to serve two personalities. Some of us come to the tropics and we are entranced by the clear air, the clear water, and the way the sun seems so much closer and yet gentler – it is everywhere, making everything golden and warm, but never too hot. For them, there is the Golden Yellow Kaftan to keep them warm no matter where life leads them. Other come and are entranced by the landscape, the trees and plants and fish that bring the world to colourful life. For them, we have the Tropical Red Kaftan, lively and bursting with energy they can take with them even into the coldest, most unforgiving landscapes. There’s no reason our precious memories must be hidden away. Wear them proudly, and remind yourself of where you have been, and where you will soon return.
