The most widely used web analytics application is unquestionably Google Analytics. The software is available for free from Google. Over the years, Google Analytics has managed to increase its popularity because of its ease of use and many advanced features that help one to analyze the site analysis in simple yet detailed manner. The need for Google Analytics (GA) Many people use it on a regular basis to track the performance of their site from the basic stats available. That’s not enough, GA can generate up to 85 different reports that can help to examine all available source of website traffic. The app not only generates reports related to visitors to a website or number of page views but also it can generate several other important reports such as time spend on particular page, which keywords are driving traffic to the site, and so on. One can also track their search engine marketing campaigns including Adwords and Adsense with the help of Google Analytics. Google Analytics Features - Tracking Code In order to track pages, the GA tracking code should be available on all the pages that you need to get tracked. The tracking code consists of a small JavaScript snippet that is needed to be added in each and every page of a website. You can add the code either manually or with the help of plugins or tool. To add the code manually, you need to manually insert the code by simply copy and paste the code immediately above the body tag of the pages that you want GA to track. TO ACCESS YOUR TRACKING CODE • Login to Google Analytics. • From the Settings page of Analytics, select the profile for which you want to retrieve the tracking code. Please note that the tracking code is different for every profile or website. • From profile’s Settings column, click Edit. • Click Check Status at the top right of the Main Website Profile Information box. • The tracking code can be copied and pasted from the text box. - Dashboard and Analytical Reports Sign in to Google Analytics and you can see the dashboard. The dashboard is the central hub that consists of all the reports that are generated by Google Analytics. The page can be customized by changing which reports should be displayed when the user login.
