If you are someone who likes to wear lipstick, you know that you are sure to find a shade for every mood and occasion. When you go to a beauty supply store and go to the lipstick section, you will find literally hundreds of lipsticks there. You will find, red, pink, blue, green, gold, silver and black and brown shades too. Types of lipsticks Sometimes this excessive variety can be extremely overwhelming and might end up confusing you as well. You might like something at the beauty supply store and then realize later that it is not something that you would like to use. So, what then is the best way to buy a lipstick? Choosing the right type is important. For this, you need to understand the 4 basic types of lipsticks that are available: • Matte- This type has the darkest and the strongest colors. This is primarily because they contain a large amount of pigment. They have no shine and deflect light instead. Matte lipsticks tend to last longer on the lips and are ideal for day wear when you go to work. You do not have to touch them up too often. The shinier lipsticks tend to wear off faster. Sometime matte lipsticks may not flatter wrinkled or thick lips. This is because their moisturizer content is not very high. • Crème- this type of lipstick generally falls between the gloss and matte. They contain a larger amount of wax. As a result, they provide more protection to the lips. Ironically, they might end up drying the lips faster as well. • Shimmer- These are also called frost or pearly lipsticks. They have light-reflecting particles such as silica, mica, fish scales or synthetic pearl. These are generally available in lighter shades and are used for special occasions. They are more an evening wear kind of beauty product. • Long wearing- The one common problem with most lipsticks is that you need to retouch them over the course of the day. They simply wear off no matter how careful you. This is where the long-wear lipsticks come to the rescue. Some varieties are very drying and most of these lipsticks have a base and a gloss and have to be applied in two parts. The base generally contains silicone oil. This seals in the color. Once it has dried, the colorless coat has to be applied for the required shine. The gloss can be reapplied but the color will not have to be retouched. The base can be removed with a makeup remover. There are a few things that you should keep in mind while buying lipsticks. They should be of a good quality. When you walk into a store to buy lipsticks you will find some that are priced very low while others might be three times that price. On the face of it, they may all look the same. But the difference will be in the quality of ingredients that are used and also on how long the lipstick lasts.
