Cognitive Relapse Prevention The researcher behind this treatment process believes in four psychosocial processes pertaining to addiction and relapse prevention. They are self-efficacy, outcome expectancies, attributions or causality, and decision-making processes. From this viewpoint, addictions stem from multiple decisions that combine to help the abuser use the substance. All of these helpful approaches can be taught and used by a therapist at addiction treatment centers.
